3/07/15 Yard Sale Finds

I went to one estate sale and got a small bundle of pins for $20. Some cool ones in there such as the WWII pin, 1960s auto memorabilia pins, a pair of old athletic award pins, Hopalong Cassidy pin, etc. I like old pins. I once went to a yard sale and bought a large trash bag full of someone’s lifelong pin collection. It is kind of sad when I find things like that but I do treasure them when I find them and also pass those items along to others who will treasure them even more.

For this week we have a theme.. PHOTOGRAPHS! I love old photographs, I’ve always collected them over the years and tend to keep most. I feel a connection with them, especially the black and white ones.



Look at that proud kitty!



1960’s Parachuting Batman and Robin, so cool!



Love ship photos, wish I knew which ship this was.



This is a creepy desolate large photo of a needle factory. I liked the eerie look of this one.

2/14/15 Yard Sale Finds

This weekend there was an estate sale. The people running the estate sale post pictures for preview purposes online. I saw some old things and it looked like it could be a good one to attend. It ended up being a lot of fun and I got some great stuff. See below 🙂



Some great newspapers, I love old newspapers. A bunch of US flags and a few foreign ones. Vintage Barbies case with old Barbie dolls and clothing. Ww2 Military medals and some vintage parachute patches. 45 records and an old 35mm slide case. Oh and a few old LIFE mags. It was quite a haul.



Some of the late Mr. Morrison’s obituary: “A graduate of Ambler High School Class of 1943, He served in the US Army 101st Airborne division from 10-11-1943 to 1-3-1946. Tom was a member of the D-Day plus one as an artilleryman in the glider forces. He was then assigned to Operation Market Garden and the liberation of Holland and later in Belgium in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead. More recently, Tom was awarded the French Legion of Honor at the French Embassy in Washington, DC.  In 1963, Tom started Sport Parachuting and was one of the organizing members of the United Parachute Club in New Hanover, PA and served as President and Treasurer. Known as “The Colonel” He completed 9,782 jumps and made his final jump on July 4, 2008 at the annual Carnival and Fireworks at Wissahickon High School at the age of 84. He stated that some of his most memorable jumps were those that he made in Holland every four years since 1969 on the anniversary of the Liberation of the country; and the jump he made with the former President George H.W. Bush in 1999.”

2/07/2015 Yard Sale Finds

There were no estate sale this week worth going to but I won some cool things at auction! Check them out below 🙂

This is a 1970 Diving Helmet ice cooler. I love the look and the fact that its vintage. I have wanted one of these since I first saw one a few years ago.

This wooden box was a happy surprise for me as it came in a box lot I won at the auction. It was emptied out of whatever old meter thing was in there and just this awesomely beautiful wooden box was left. Perfect to sit on a shelf and use as a shadow box. I love the industrial look it has and the fact that the glass in uncracked and it has the cool white metal “frame” still inside the glass, I am having a love affair with this box clearly, lol.

I saw this small metal pilot bust at the auction and thought he had a cool look to him so I bid. No one else wanted him so I won 🙂

These 4 pages are part of a 1920’s scrapbook I won. I simply bid on it because of these car pages which I fell in love with for some reason. They are magazine cutouts and then whoever glued them inside the book painted the car names underneath. I like how the white pating kind of yellowed, that way you can tell these are old:) I was thinking about framing them and putting them up for sale. I think they would look cool hanging on a wall.

1/31/2015 Yard Sale Finds

Estate sale!!! This was a fun one 🙂 My dad and I went about 30-45 minutes earlier than opening. We were numbers 8 and 9. By the time it opened up there were 25 more people. Even at 8 and 9 I think we got some of the best stuff. We split up and made a pile and make sure you not only mark your stuff sold you guard it or have an employee guard it. While I was awaiting a total I chased off 7 people from going through my pile that had SOLD stickers all over everything.  Check out pictures of the estate sale below and some of my finds:)

01/24/15 YARD SALE FINDS

Thank you for checking in with my blog to see what awesome things I have discovered this week from estate and yard sales!

For this week I purchased a whole bin full of ninja turtles and a few other random actions figures from an estate sale. I’ve done well with vintage ninja turtles before so I knew if they weren’t too expensive, I should grab them. They are in good shape too, weren’t dirty at all, which is rare for 20 year old action figures. These are destined for ebay unless someone contacts me prior to make a deal. I am willing to negotiate on price because I am short on time.

I found these 12 press photographs at an antique store. All airplanes, some really cool images. I love black and white photos. I have also had press photos before and did extremely well with them. And by extremely well, I mean, I purchased an whole box at a regular old yard sale for $20 and ended up making $1000 or so. But I had some real gems in there.. Kennedy, Woodstock, Nazis, St Valentines Day Massacre, Prohibition, just to name a few. I kind of wish I had held on to a few of them, they would have only gained value. But alas, on to the next deal. . .

01-17-15 Yard Sale Finds

Here is a cool piece of militaria I found at an estate sale for $40. Trying to date this old wood crate, it has some rare Stanley Works logos on it from what I’ve been able to tell so far. It reads on lid
“Set Radio Telegraph
Type MC-300
Complete W/ Chests
Ser. No. 305
(Spare Parts)”

The side reads:
SWPA No
30-45
0-3″

On the handles are the logo SW inside a heart.
On the lid on metal bracket it reads:
” 92
Harts
6
Patent
Stanley Works”

I found this Star Trek Panel in an estate sale attic hanging on the wall. Trying to find out if it’s real or a reproduction. I have an authentic Screen Panel prop from the movie Sunshine and it feels and looks similar in authenticity. But I have no CoA for the Star Trek panel so I can’t say for sure.

I also found this super cool old Stop sign in a garage for $5! I couldn’t believe it when she said the price! I also got 2 street signs and a porcelain No Smoking sign there as well. Those also $5 each.

I also got these 1950’s bowling trophies at the estate sale with the Star Trek panel. The one has broken arm unfortunately. I really enjoy old trophies.

1/10/2015 Yard Sale Finds

Couple things to show for this last weekend. First I got a cast iron and porcelain street sign. I picked it up at an antique shop for $60. Its rusty and beat up but I like the look of it. I’m going to try and build a makeshift post for it to stand on. Thought $60 was a fair price as well so I snagged it.

Also got this complete boyscout uniform from Early 1960’s. 2 Shirts with patches, 2 pairs of pants, 1 pair of shorts, 3 handkerchiefs, belt and cap.

1/03/2015 Yard Sale Finds

As to be expected there were no estate or yard sales this first weekend of 2015. I went to a few antique stores looking to get lucky and believe I did. See below.

I snagged these 2 antique Oak school desks for $20 each. They are marked Moulthrop on the sides and the drawer pull under the seat stamped Langslow Fowler Co. Rochester NY Moulthrop. They are small desks and need some cleaned of the wood, but for $20 I had to buy them both. I have never seen desks like this before, so cool.

I am a sucker for World War 2 military memorabilia. This is a US Military ID dated 1942, also includes 2 patches, 2 pins and his letterhead stamp. I purchased this for $40 so It’s not like to got a great deal but it came in this nice shadow box also. This will most likely stay with my personal military collection which is why I didn’t mind paying retail for it. I was able to find his obituary online, here is an excerpt on his military career: “An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Marsh served as a captain in Europe during World War II and as a major in the Korean War. Later, he joined the Army Reserve and retired as a lieutenant colonel.”

X-Mas break Yard Sale Finds

I have been very busy the past 2 months and haven’t had any time for the updating of the blog. I was sick in November and then Thanksgiving was here and then decorating the house and hanging lights for Christmas. Then of course shopping for gifts and before I knew it Christmas was here. Now unfortunately the Holidays are over and it is time to get my butt in gear and get back to working hard. I didn’t get a chance to go to many sales while sick and busy in December. I would, however, like to share some of the things I was able to buy in November and December. I will now be back to updated every week with my Awesome yard sale finds so please check back often. Hope everyone had a wonderful 2014 🙂 Here’s to 2015 being even better!

This is a 1920’s era Art Deco pair of brass wall sconces made by Sterling Bronze Co. New York. There were an estate sale purchase found in a basement.
